Italica, founded in 206 BC by Scipio Africanus, is one of the oldest cities in Roman Hispania. During the 2nd and 3rd centuries AD it acquired great cultural and military importance and today, it is well recognized in the world of History and Art.

In Italica they were born Trajan and Adriano; the latter, who was emperor between the 138 and the 117 to C. He ordered the construction of large marble temples and other disturbing buildings. According to the archaeologists, the ruin of Itálica was due to the change of course of the Guadalquivir river that ended up devastating the city.

In the ruins of Itálica we can find the old amphitheater, able to host up to 25000 viewers in his day. We can also find an exhibition of objects found in the site itself. Italica also has numerous other treasures that are stored in the Archaeological Museum of Seville.

The visitor can wander through the remains of the streets of Itálica and admire each pavement and all the mosaics that are in their villas. However, there is not much left of the temples and baths of the city, since almost all the stone and marble of which it is composed have been looted.

As we see, there are many places where we can get lost and enjoy each of its hidden hiding places. If you like History and Art Seville, will captivate you.
