Trips to Pisa

The beautiful Tuscan city of Pisa offers many more opportunities to photograph in addition to its famous leaning tower. The small streets of the historic center of the city extend on both sides of the Arno River and house cozy bars and restaurants with organic food next to impressive historical and architectural attractions.

Explore the city on foot or by bicycle, or use public transport, since parking spaces are scarce. The leaning Tower, the independent bell tower of the cathedralIt is where most people go. Once there, haggle with the hawkers of souvenirs.

The tower and the cathedral are in the center of the walled Square of Miracles, which offers two more examples of the architectural diversity of Pisa: the baptistery and Cemetery (the cemetery).

Leave behind the trees of the Martyrs Square of Liberty on the way to the historic center of Pisa. In the Square of the Knights, see the facades of Palace of Carovana and the Palace of the Puteano School, which currently offers accommodation for students of the prestigious Scuola Normale Superiore di Pisa.

After a full day of walking through the historic center, order a plate of pasta or "sullo scio", a type of soup, in one of its cafes. Then do what the local families do and stroll along the banks of the Arno. Don't miss the quaint little Gothic church of Santa Maria della Spina.

Pisa has hot summers and mild winters. As in the most typical cities of Tuscany, there is not much nightlife, so you will have no problem getting up early and visiting the fresh market of the Piazza delle Vettovaglie or go shopping under Borgo's nearby arcades Stretto.

Many people see Pisa as a springboard to visit the rest of Tuscany, making use of the international airport in the immediate vicinity of Pisa and, after a quick visit to the Pisa Tower, take the fast interurban train to Florence or other places. However, it is recommended to spend the night if you want to appreciate the true beauty of Pisa.
