Trips to Cannes

It is also one of the most fashionable destinations on the French Riviera. When you travel to Cannes, once a peaceful fishing village, you will discover that it is now a luxurious tourist destination. The La Croisette promenade reflects the glamor of the city with sophisticated shops and luxurious hotels, including the InterContinental Carlton in belle époque style.

Much of the activity in Cannes takes place in front of the sea. On your trips to Cannes, do not forget to visit the Palace of festivals and congresses, where the films of the city's film festival are screened. This festival started at 1946 and, currently, takes place during two weeks of the month of May, in which the city is filled with famous people. Outside the venue, you can look for the traces of movie stars such as Bruce Willis and Joan Collins.

Visit the Le Suquet district to see part of the old Cannes. The cobblestone streets will lead you to an 11th century fortress from where you can see the city and the coastline of the French Riviera. Discover a collection of 200 old musical instruments at the Musée de la Castre. Pack local produce at the Marché Forville market, which takes place from Tuesday to Sunday at the Rue Louis Blanc. Next to Rue d'Antibes you will find the most important shopping street in the city.

In the La Bocca district, you can enjoy public beaches that stretch across the Boulevard du Midi and practice water sports such as windsurfing, wakeboarding and kayaking.

Take a short boat ride to the Lérins Islands, off the coast of Cannes. Nature lovers will enjoy watching birds and plants as they stroll along the island of Santa Margarita. In it, you will also find the prison, or Royal Fort, which had as prisoner in the seventeenth century the famous Eustache Dauger, better known as the man in the iron mask. On the island of San Honorato, you can buy wine made by Cistercian monks.

Walking around the center of Cannes on foot is simple, but if you prefer, you can buy a tourist train ticket that goes through many of the main attractions of the place. The tour lasts 35 minutes and leaves every hour from the Palace of festivals. It is not recommended to take the car to Cannes, since parking is usually expensive. If you prefer, the city's low cost bus service will take you to La Bocca, as well as to Antibes, Monaco and Nice.
