Trips to Scheveningen

Walk along the promenade, cool off in the North Sea, surf or enjoy a host of other activities on one of the most popular beaches in the country.
Come and spend the day at Scheveningen beach, the seaside resort of The Hague. Here you can play a game of beach volleyball with the locals, enjoy beach leisure activities for the whole family or swim and sunbathe on your towel. After sunset, you will have a varied offer of cinemas, restaurants and nightclubs to choose from.

The beach of Scheveningen is a strip of sand of 2,4 kilometers (1,5 miles) located northwest of The Hague. It is divided, roughly, into four zones: the boulevard, the port beach, the north beach and the nudist beach. We recommend starting on the boulevard, where the main attractions are located, as well as the most emblematic building on the beach: the Kurhaus hotel in 1885. See the horizon from the dock, a once magnificent structure, but now houses an uncertain future as a result of the fire it suffered in 2011.

Scheveningen beach is famous for being one of the best places for kitesurfing or windsurfing in the Netherlands. To get started in these sports, you can rent surf equipment at one of the stalls that mark the beach or sign up for classes. If you already have enough level, throw yourself directly to ride on the best waves on the port beach. It is also possible to rent a sea kayak.

When the sun goes down, head to the north beach to enjoy the night with the people of Hays, very open people, in one of the many clubs in the area. If you come in summer, go to one of the festivals that are regularly held on the beach. On the north beach is also The Hague Beach Stadium, where you can watch summer volleyball, hockey or handball championships.

If you are looking for tranquility, stay away from the main areas and look for a place next to the water where you can rest. On colder days you can take a revitalizing walk along the beach and then go to the SEA LIFE aquarium or one of the nearby cinemas or shopping centers.

The beach is located at the east end of The Hague, about 15 minutes by road from the center of the city. In the summer months there is a large influx of people and parking can become a problem, so the easiest is to go by bus or tram to the Kurhaus from the center of The Hague.
