The edge of the London Eye is supported by tensioned steel cables and resembles a huge bicycle wheel.
The lighting was made from Kinetics LED lights. In December of 2006 the lighting control system was changed from manual to digital. The ferris wheel was built in sections, each part being transported by barge through the River Thames.

- It has a capacity for 800 people for each rotation, which is comparable to 11 of London's famous double-decker red buses.
