Excursion to the Catacombs and the Via Appia

Rome has a variety of very interesting places. Each of them has a historical value of first. This time the route will be directed towards Catacombs as well as the Via Appia, Aqueducts as well as the Tomb of Cecilia Metela.

The starting point of this tour is the Barberini Square, from there you will go to the Via Appia Antica. This is one of the most admired streets in Ancient Rome. It has some of the most renowned places of Roman Christianity, such as the Basilica of St. John Lateran, Basilica of Santa Maria la Mayor, Termas de Caracalla as well as the Chapel of Quo Vadis.

La Basilica of St. John Lateran, It was built in honor of Saint John the Baptist and Saint John the Evangelist. It is part of the group of major basilicas and is the cathedral of the city of Rome. The Basilica of Santa Maria la Mayor It is another of the major basilicas and is the largest church dedicated to the Virgin Mary of the Roman metropolis.

Our Termas de Caracalla, were built during the government of Marco Aurelio Antonino Basiano between the years 212 and 216 DC They were considered for the time one of the constructions dedicated to the most spectacular and sophisticated hot springs. You can also enjoy the exterior view of the Tomb of Cecilia Metela. All these places are spectacular to get beautiful photographic memories.

Excursion to the Catacombs

The highlight of the tour is the visit to the Catacombs. But, despite the fact that in Rome there are more than sixty catacombs, only five of them are available to the public. These are the Catacombs of San Sebastián, Priscilla catacombs, Catacombs of Santa Inés, The Catacombs of San Calixto and Domitila Catacombs. These last two are usually those found within our routes.

The places where these catacombs are located are surrounded by stories, myths and legends. It must be remembered that the catacombs were a set of underground corridors and corridors in which the pagan settlers, Jews and the first Christians of the era were buried. It is said that construction began during the second century and that its construction was finally completed in the fifth century.

It is a different way of appreciating the culture and way of thinking of the Romans. Perhaps some will think that it is a bit macabre to visit those places, but the truth is that it is a simple way to appreciate the change of thought of the time.

After traveling along this beautiful road and making the different stops, listening to the stories and taking many photographs, people will return to the starting point of the tour. The tour is done in a comfortable and comfortable bus, under the direction of very friendly tour guides who are knowledgeable about their culture and traditions. Do not forget to visit the city of Rome from another perspective.
